Sauser won the race in 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2006. This year’s race, which takes place from March 23 to 30, 2014, will once again take 1 200 riders through some of the Western Cape’s most unspoilt territory.
The race will kick-off with the Prologue at Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville and finish eight days later at Lourensford Wine Estate.
Sauser has been racing professionally since 1993 and his many accomplishments include being the Marathon World Champion in 2011 and 2007, the Marathon European Champion in 2007, and the Cross-Country World Champion in 2008, apart from being a six times Swiss Champion.
He was the UCI World Cup series winner twice, has 14 UCI World Cup victories behind his name and was a bronze medalist at the 2000 Olympics. He has won 30 Absa Cape Epic stages.
Born in Prague, Rabon turned professional in 2006 after having been European U23 road champion the previous season and three times Czech Under 23 time trial champion.
Participating in his tenth Absa Cape Epic, Sauser looks forward to riding with Rabon for the first time. “I’m really happy that I found a very strong partner in Rabon. He has a great character and personality. He’s also as committed and driven to win the Absa Cape Epic!”
