Olympic rowing champion Matthew Brittain will ride for Yahclick in his second Absa Cape Epic which takes place from March 23 to 30 in the Western Cape.
Yahclick is the Official Satellite Broadband Solution powered by the Abu Dhabi-based company, Yahsat, of the Absa Cape Epic and will offer riders, crew and media high speed Internet in the remote stage locations the race visits including Robertson, Greyton and Elgin.
Matthew Brittain (26) won a gold medal in the Men’s lightweight coxless four event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He will be riding with Ugandan partner Daniel Alikisente to form an all-African team.
Says Brittain: “I was privileged to race in last year’s Absa Cape Epic and jumped at the opportunity to race in the 2014 edition. Daniel and I try to ride together three times a week, although our schedules and the recent rain make this difficult. We meet at 5am halfway between our two houses and do ten-minute intervals up and down the same street.”
According to Brittain, it is of paramount importance that “you need to be able to suffer without losing your sense of humour as the route is seriously challenging and throws a lot of curve balls at you. If the organisers could get live television coverage for the entire route, spectators would understand just how awesome this event really is”.
