Kenya cyclist David Kinjah has landed a partnership deal with South Africa based MTN Qhubeka team.
Kinja, who used to train with the Kenya-born reigning Tour de France champion Chris Froome of England, is back in the county after taking part in several races in South Africa including the famous Cape Argus Tour.
He met the owner of MTN Qhubeka Douglas Ryder who promised to support his Safari Simbas Cycling club project.
The deal will see the Simbas integrated into the South African programme which means they will be officially recognised by MTN Qhubeka as potential suppliers for young riders.
“They have some money over there, they have some budget, but that budget is only for very serious riders,” Kinjah warned.
“So when you go there and you are given a bike and food and a chance to train and race, it’s up to you to prove yourself. The way you behave has to be acceptable” added Kinjah.
Kinjah has thus warned potential riders who will be picked for the training programme in South Africa that they must be prepared for the strict rules set by Qhubeka.
“I was talking to Douglas and he said he is ready to see my boys but they must be ready to follow the rules” said Kinjah. – The Star
