This year’s Absa Cape Epic is underway and Team Laureus is one of the high-profile teams tackling 718 km of the Western Cape’s most grueling mountain bike trails.
Joining Laureus Ambassador and Springbok rugby legend, Butch James, and his riding partner Jade Gutzeit (former enduro and off-road national dirt bike champion) in Team Laureus are Rafael Medina (Trustee, Laureus Sport for Good Foundation Spain) and Spanish Laureus Ambassador, Josef Ajram.
Swiss Laureus Ambassadors and cross-country mountain bikers, Christoph Sauser and Nino Schurter, complete the international line-up.
The JP Morgan-sponsored Team Laureus is taking part in the Cape Epic to raise awareness for the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation which supports projects on every continent and uses the positive power of sport to tackle society’s most pressing challenges.
On Saturday, March 22, Laureus SA Trustee, Iain Banner, accompanied Butch James, Jade Gutzeit, Josef Ajram and Rafael Medina for a fun ride with the Hout Bay Cycling Project.
This well-supported project of the Laureus Foundation South Africa is giving youngsters from Imizamo Yethu community the opportunity to experience the world of cycling while offering a healthy alternative to negative influences in their informal settlement.
