Mountain bikers of all fitness levels can enjoy this year’s Fish River Sun Mountain Bike challenge, which takes place from June 14 to June 16.
This weekend-long Father’s Day celebration will see friends and family taking to the trails and spending time relaxing around the heated swimming pool.
Riders can choose to do either one or both of the fun stages. The 50km first stage rolls through the Kap River Nature Reserve, situated on the western bank of the Fish River. Participants should see an abundance of wildlife on this pristine route.
The scenic 60km second stage takes place on the eastern side of the river. Comprising gravel road, cattle paths, jeep and single-track, the route finishes with a unique loop around the Fish River Sun golf course.
According to Mountain Events organiser Brad Jackson, a highlight for riders will be crossing the feature bridge over the Old Woman’s River, to end on the lawn in front of the clubhouse.
Once the day’s challenge is over, the resort offers plenty of activities for the whole family. Parents can check their kids into Kamp Kwena while mom enjoys a relaxing spa treatment and dad partakes in a round of golf.
The Fish River Sun MTB Challenge is also the only Eastern Cape event to include the newly created TREAD Buffalo category, a special national racing category for riders weighing more than 90kg. ?There will be a dedicated division on the daily and overall results with points earned, an annual rankings log established and podium appearances guaranteed.
The Fish River Sun will be providing accommodation for the full race entrants at R5 700 per team of two riders, which includes entry into the race (both stages), two nights’ accommodation at the resort (Friday and Saturday) and three meals a day for two days.
There will also be a non-resident package available for R2 500 per team of two, which includes lunch.
Solo riders can also take advantage of the full entry package at R3 564 per person, which includes accommodation and meals, or the non-resident option for R1 300, which includes lunch.
