“The winners curse” is a term I recently heard in an Audio Book “Quiet” – describing irrational business behavior to out bid the opposition in an acquisition, far beyond real value.
I can relate. Having made the personal promise to win here after finishing fourth in 2006 the cost is mounting and becoming irrelevant.
But then personal goals are worth more than reality affords them.
This my third venture on Ilhabela and my fifth race in Brazil.
I relate naturally to the culture here, their positive can do approach. Thinking it over, this was my fifth continent for the 2014!?
Remarkable in itself. And I’ll be at my sixth later this month while in Norway.
Loved the glassy swim with its 6tf Red Bull pier jump midway through. Its an unusual sense of relief to be swimming after being clueless of announcements and the countdown prior to starting. My Portuguese is rusty (read non-existing).
From early on the bike it was just the lead moto and I. Each getting stuck in turn, pushing our bikes up the muddiest walls. It had rained much during the week and although weather now was blue cool winter air, the route was unplayable.
A local star in Felipe Moletta was simply much better at the variables, and walked/run past me on one of the final hike-a-bike sections, to give him a minute lead onto the run.
