Poland’s Rafal Majka, holder of the polka-dot jersey, claimed victory in today’s mountain stage of the Tour de France while Vincenzo Nibali extended his general classification lead.

Majka, a member of the Tinkoff-Saxo team, won the 17th stage – a 124.5-kilometer (77-mile) ride from Saint-Gaudens to Saint- Lary Pla d’Adet in the Pyrenees – adding to his victory in the 14th stage.
The 24-year-old finished in a time of 3 hours, 35 minutes, 23 seconds.
Today’s mountain stage finished with a 10.2 kilometer climb at 8.3 percent and Majka pulled away from Giovanni Visconti with 2.5 kilometers of the stage remaining.
Nibali finished third, extending his lead over Spain’s Alejandro Valverde to 5 minutes, 26 seconds in the overall classification. The 29-year-old Astana rider has held the leader’s yellow jersey since winning the 10th stage. – Bloomberg
