Team Abantu took on the MTN Khemani Classic this past weekend and David Maree claimed third place.
MTN-Qhubeka Feeder team’s Tesfom Issak took top honours ahead of Jayde Julias from Bonitas.
Maree put in a courageous fight having been dropped no less than six times from the elite group of break-away riders but carried on fighting his way back to the fore.
“It was a courageous effort from David today. A few tactical errors saw him chasing back to the front and marking the endless attacks from the numerically strong MTN outfit but in true Maree style he never gave up.
“When he dropped on the second to last climb I thought we could never possibly be on the podium but he continued to fight back and salvage a podium finish. The team as a whole continues to build on its form and its a matter of time until we back on the top step of the podium.” said Dean Edwards, Team Principal.
