Matthys Beukes and Philip Buys of SCOTT Factory Racing won a shortened stage five of the Bridge Cape Pioneer Trek on Friday, while Team Bulls’ Simon Stiebjahn and Tim Bohme retain the overall lead.

The South Africans, who finished in 2:13:32, tried to make up for lost time, but remains second in the general classification.
The second last stage was shortened from 71km to 51km due to weather making parts of the route dangerous.
Rounding out the podium were Belgians Michiel van Albroeck and Robby de Bock (WWB.be-Feenstra), who came home two minutes and thirty seconds behind the winners.
The women’s race saw Cherise Stander and Candice Neethling (#iride4Burry) win their first stage in 2:38:05.
Overall leaders Catherine Williamson and Alice Pirard (Asrin Cycling) finished two minutes later, with Theresa Ralph and Esther Suss (Meerendal Wheeler) a further minute down.
Saturday’s final stage is said to be one of the easiest despite 1025m of ascent.
