Belgium’s Jelle Wallays won the 2014 Paris-Tours cycling classic by beating Frenchman Thomas Voeckler in a two-man sprint on Sunday.
The two riders were part of a seven-man break that formed early on in the rain-soaked 237.5km race between Bonneval and Tours.
The group was eventually whittled down to three riders, and then to two after a well-timed attack by Voeckler (Europcar) in the last three kilometres.
The two leaders were assisted by indecision in the main chase group of 10 riders – which included Germany’s defending champion John Degnkolb (Giant-Shimano).
Voeckler opened up the sprint about 200m from the line, but Wallays (Topsport Vlaanderen) had enough left to pip him on the line.
