Read the important information below for Old Mutual joBerg2c riders who are gearing up for the nine-day ride from April 24.
This event portrays what South Africa is really about; the people, the route, the food.
Take note that it is a GPS-based race and therefore riders will need to have a GPS unit to navigate.
Mountain bikers are also encouraged to download the free mySOS emergency app for smartphones which will be used in the event.
Be prepared for a tough ride with lots of proper mountain biking. An average of 100km per day will be covered off-road on trails and back-country roads.
A fire has unfortunately hit Poelanie’s Guest House, which is an overnight stay option on day two, resulting in them losing their record of all bookings. Riders who have made a booking must e-mail their details to Neels (poelanies@reitz.co.za).
There will be a bike and people shuttle service from the registration venue in Rosebank to the start, approximately 50km south of Johannesburg, on Friday morning, April 23. The shuttle will also take riders from the finish to King Shaka Durban International Airport on May 2 and 3, as well as from the finish at Scottburgh to the airport.
Camper vans are on a first come, first served basis, therefore riders will need to book their camper van in. An alternative to this is the Avis Safari rental vehicle.
The main change for 2015 is that the race will be moving from Glengarry to Cllfton Prep in Nottingham Road on day five. There is also a new race village in the Underberg region on day six and the revamp of Jolivet race village on day eight.
Riders are encouraged to make use of the new joBerg2c playgrounds which include: Thaba Trails, Garden Route Trail Centre, Northern Farms, Holla Trails, Van Gaalens and Karkloof.
