A successful mountain bike commissaire’s course was presented by South African Schools Cycling (SASC) President Deon Steyn in Bloemfontein on January 24.
Steyn, a qualified UCI MTB commissaire, has recognised that there is a shortage of MTB commissaires in many provinces in the country.
“We are looking at teaching those who might be interested; to further develop this important aspect of the sport,” said Steyn.
The course, which was funded by Cycling SA through the Technical Commission, welcomed 11 candidates who were guided through the first step of becoming a qualified commissaire.
“Candidates start off with theory training, which is followed by the practical element in the next session, at which point they can operate as a provincial commissaire,” said Steyn.
In addition to the MTB commissaire’s course, Steyn also presented a school commissaire’s course and a team manager’s for school kids course for the candidates, which was well received.
