Bigla Pro Team’s Moolman Pasio added the individual gold to her team-time trial winner’s medal when she cruised over the finish line ahead of fellow South African Heidi Dalton and Aurelie Halbwachs who finished second and third respectively.
The men’s individual time trial had a strong South African contingent but Grmay was the fastest over the two laps to claim the continental crown, becoming the first rider from the East African Nation to win an elite gold medal at the continental road championships.
The silver medal in the men’s individual time trial went to Daniel Teklehaimanot from Eritrea, while South Africa’s Reinhardt Janse van Rensburg claimed bronze.
In the under-23 men’s category of the individual time trial Eritrean and Team MTN-Qhubeka’s Merhawi Kudus claimed the spoils as he added this title to the team time trial gold that he won with his national team on the first day of the competition.
The silver and bronze medals in the Under 23 Men’s individual time trial went to Rwanda’s Valens Ndayisenga and Algeria’s Adil Barbari respectively.
The Thursday schedule at the African Continental Road Championships will commence with the Junior Men’s and Women’s Road Races starting at 09:30am.
