Up market lifestyle estate Somerset Lakes will be hosting the first leg of the Lights by Linea HERO Challenge Summer Series 2015 in Somerset West on Saturday, March 14 from 2pm to 7pm.
Since it was launched in 2013, the HERO Challenge has become one of the highlights of SA road cycling with top athletes, such as winner of the 2015 Cape Town Cycle Tour Nolan Hoffman, participating in the event.
The HERO Challenge falls into a category of cycling known as criterium road racing, a relatively new concept to SA road racing constituting a multi-lap race on a closed circuit generally less than 5km in length.
The circuit must be completed by the riders as many times as possible within the category’s specified time frame.
The timed races at Somerset Lakes are open to all categories of road cyclists including professional, U16, ladies, masters, veteran and open categories, as well as a fun ride.
Registration opens at 3pm on race day at Somerset Lakes and will close 30 minutes prior to each category’s start time.
Timed racing commences at 4:15pm and continues until 7pm in three slots.
The second leg of the HERO Challenge will take place on Sunday, March 15 in the Stellenbosch CBD.
