The Belgian rider placed 24th today and is in the same position as the top MTN-Qhubeka rider in the general classification.
South African rider Jacques Janse van Rensburg, along with his team mates Daniel Teklehaimanot and Steve Cummings worked to set up Edvald Boasson Hagen for the sprint to the finish, but their work was in vain as Boasson Hagen fell short on the final climb.
BMC Racing Team’s Greg Van Avermaet won the 198.5km stage today, with Team Sky’s Chris Froome still in the yellow jersey after stage 13.
