Team MTN Qhubeka’s Edvald Boasson Hagen sprinted to an impressive fifth place finish in stage four of the Tour de France, which took place from Seraing to Cambrai today.
Boasson Hagen was part of the 35 strongest riders who would compete for the win after overcoming the seven cobble sectors covering 13.3km of the stage.
The Norwegian’s team mates put in a strong showing early on to ensure that he entered the first pivotal sector in prime position with 46km to the finish.
Boasson Hagen attacked by opening a small bunch sprint, which included Giant-Alpecin’s John Degenkolb, Tinkoff-Saxo’s Peter Sagan and BMC Racing’s Greg van Avermaet, with 350m to go.
Germany’s Tony Martin riding for Team Etixx-Quick-Step won the 223.5km stage today to take the yellow from Team Sky’s Chris Froome.
