Windy and rainy conditions on the second stage of the Tour de France, which took place from Utrecht to Zelande today, saw Team MTN Qhubeka’s Merhawi Kudus and Evald Boasson Hagan go down in one of the day’s crashes.
The pair were unhurt and able to complete the stage.
At the 50km mark MTN-Qhubeka’s Serge Pauwels and Tyler Farrar formed part of the foremost of four groups on the road, with Jacques Janse van Rensburg in the second split.
The MTN-Qhubeka riders were held back after a another sequence of crashes with 25 riders moving ahead.
Germany’s Andre Greipel of team Lotto Jumbo took the stage win today, with Trek Factory Racing’s Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland taking over the yellow jersey from Australia’s Rohan Dennis with a four-second time bonus after finishing third on the stage.
