Team MTN Qhubeka’s Serge Pauwels sailed into the first break of the day in the crash affected third stage of the Tour de France, which took place from Anvers to Huy today.
Pauwels was rewarded with a Peugeot as the first Belgian across the line at the 15km mark.
The MTN Qhubeka riders put in a good performance despite the high speed crash that saw 40 riders involved in a pile up just after the break.
Daniel Teklehaimanot, Reinhardt Janse van Rensburg and Tyler Farrar were involved in the crash but were unharmed and completed the stage.
Louis Meintjes was the first South African to cross the line in 22nd today, with Eritrean rider Merhawi Kudus in 30th.
Katusha’s Joaquim Rodriguez of Spain took the 159.5km stage today followed by Britain’s Chris Froome of Team Sky who took the yellow jersey from Fabian Cancellara.
