All women interested in attending the Sport Director course at the UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland, in November should apply for one of the limited number of scholarships available through Cycling South Africa.
CSA will endorse just one application and send their nomination through to the world cycling body.
UCI women’s cycling coordinator Andrea Marcellini said the organisation wanted to provide women with the opportunity to stay in the sport after retiring from competitive cycling.
The sport director course aims to enhance the expertise of those already in the role as well as those hoping to join the profession.
The course runs from November 10 to 17. There are three options – a three-and-a-half day course for current sport directors of UCI WorldTeams and UCO ProContinental teams; an eight-day course for existing and aspiring directors across all divisions; and an exam-only option for those with the necessary experience and knowledge.
CSA women’s commission director Lise Olivier said the latest development confirmed the UCI and CSA’s commitment to women’s cycling.
Olivier said this was further evidenced by CSA sending a national road team to participate in a European cycling programme and securing UCI 1.1 status for the women’s race at the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge.
Applications should be emailed, together with a CV and letter of motivation, to CSA secretary-general Greg van Heerden on secretarygeneral@cyclingsa.com.
The closing date for applications is September 18.
