Held at the Alrode BMX Club in Alberton, Gauteng, at the weekend, the event saw the 21-year-old Jeep rider make a stellar comeback after a serious wrist injury kept him off the bike since April.
“It really, really feels good to have defended my national title! The last little while has been quite a difficult time and it is great to finally be back,” said the three-time champion.
Dodd admitted to some stressful moments as rival Alex Limberg edged closer as the rounds progressed in the lead-up to the finale.
Dodd pulled ahead in the first round, but he struggled to find his way past Limberg in the last two races before the final.
“He had an amazing start in both of the last two motos, and with good track speed there was just no way around him.
“Going into the break before the final I was quite stressed as I knew the final was going to come down to whoever got into that first corner first,” said Dodd.
“Fortunately it all worked out for me in the end though and thankfully I was able to get the win!”
With this title under his belt Dodd will be looking towards qualifying for Rio 2016 and hoping to add an Olympic medal to his list of achievements.
