Nico Bell and Robyn de Groot sealed their respective overall men’s and women’s victories when they claimed the finale of the Nissan TrailSeeker Gauteng Series at Cullinan, near Pretoria, this past weekend.
Bell (RECM) pipped Waylon Woolcock (USN Purefit) to the post in the Diamond Rush, with national marathon champion Gawie Combrinck (EAI Cycling) rounding out the men’s podium in a close-run finishing sprint.

The result gave Bell three wins from five events and the top spot in the standings. Combrinck moved into second on the general classification with Jeep’s Thinus Redelinghuys third overall.
“It was great to finish off the season with a win. I was under a bit of pressure to take the win, so I didn’t take too many risks and only pushed when I knew I could afford it,” said Bell.
An in-form De Groot (Ascendis Health) dominated the women’s race, while Vanessa Bell (Bell’s Cycling) claimed the runner-up spot ahead of newly turned pro rider Maricel Bekker.
Her flawless performance gave her the series laurels ahead of Theresa Ralph and Vanessa Bell in second and third respectively.
