South African mountain biker Rourke Croeser has been found not guilty of violating UCI medical rules by Cycling South Africa’s disciplinary commission.
The commission confirmed that the needles and syringes in Croeser’s possession prior to the UCI MTB World Championships in Andorra in September did not contravene any rules about the use of illegal substances and the “no needle” policy.
With reference to UCI Medical Rule 13.03.058 (2), it states that “in case a violation of article 13.3.052 occurs at a race” whereas in Croeser’s case, the syringes were found days before while he was in training.
According to CSA, Croeser will be notified of the finding, which will be lodged with the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport and the UCI.
CSA president William Newman said the national federation would help riders like Croeser to educate themselves about the UCI and World Anti-Doping Agency regulations.
