Jean-Bosco Nsengimana received a hero’s welcome from the thousands of spectators when he won the Tour of Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Sunday.

Nsengimana, who hails from Rubavu on Lake Kivu, takes over the champion’s jersey from fellow countryman and 2014 winner Valens Ndayisenga.

The young rider impressed throughout the seven-day tour, winning three stages en route to overall victory. He took the yellow jersey on day one and did not relinquish it again.
“This is a great moment for me but it is also the result of the work of the all team,” he said.
“I worked hard to succeed in this Tour of Rwanda and it is a great reward.”
Eritrean sprinter Metkel Eyob won the final stage but the Rwandans made full use of their home ground advantage throughout the tour to nullify attacks by the Eritrean, Moroccan and French teams.
