Jeannie Dreyer is aiming for her third Karkloof Classic mountain bike title when it takes place at the Country Club outside Howick in KwaZulu-Natal on June 5.
She said she held her victories in 2013 and 2015 in the 60km marathon race in high regard and hoped her strong showings in other endurance events would stand her in good stead.
“There is always great hype in the weeks leading up to Karkloof and such a great field turns up every year, so it’s definitely one of the calendar’s great races.”
The all-rounder recently completed the 4 Islands MTB Race in Croatia before claiming victory in the Expedition Africa adventure race despite a badly rolled ankle.
“I’ve been really busy recently and just seem to be going from event to event without any downtime in between, or much training for that matter,” said Dreyer, who recently signed up to ride under the Merchants banner.
She said that the racing was what got her going and that the ankle should not affect her too much.
The Classic forms part of the two-day Karkloof Classic Trail Festival, which offers trail running and mountain biking events.
