Slovakia’s green jersey wearer Peter Sagan beat Norwegen Alexander Kristoff in a photo finish to win stage 16 of the Tour de France in Bern, Switzerland, today.
Sagan took his third win of this year’s race to extend his lead in the points competition after a 209km stage that started in Moirans, France.
Norway’s Sondre Enger (IAM) finished third on the day with Britain’s Chris Froome finishing safely in the leading group to retain his grip on the yellow jersey.
“It was a very long stage, it was very hot,” said Sagan, the current world champion, who races for Tinkoff.
“I’m so happy, so proud of my team. They did a very good job and I’m so happy I could win for them. For Tinkoff and for Oleg.
“A lot of times I win race by this much (he shows with his finger) and today I won. I believe in destiny and now it is turning back, you know.”
