Ryan Gibbons will replace Reinardt Janse van Rensburg in the South African team for the 2016 Road World Championships in Doha from October 9 to 16.
Janse van Rensburg was involved in an unfortunate crash during the penultimate stage of the Eneco Tour in Belgium on Saturday that resulted in a fractured shoulder, ruling him out of the championships.
Although Gibbons is in his final year of U23, he will race in the elite category.
He has been riding as a stagiaire for the Dimension Data World Tour Team and has shown excellent form this year.
