New trio to join Team Dimension Data

September 29, 2016, 11:36 am By In the Bunch

Three new signings with plenty to offer – Ben King, Scott Thwaites and Lachlan Morton – will link up with Team Dimension Data in 2017.

King will bolster the team’s American contingent, but with his European base in Lucca, he is no stranger to the training centre in Tuscany.

In the last three years the 27-year-old has ridden for Cannondale-Drapac, with stage wins at the Amgen Tour of California and the Criterium International being his highlights.

“Team Dimension Data feels like the perfect environment to grow as an athlete and as a person. The team races with guts and everyone gets opportunities,” said King.

Thwaites, a 26-year-old British rider, gained professional experience in the last four years while competing for Bora-Argon18.

He had a strong campaign in 2016 that saw him come close to the top 20 in most of the prestigious cobbled classics.

“After steadily improving over the last four years and beginning to break into the top 20, I was looking for a team with some experienced classics riders and knowledgeable directors to help me continue to develop,” said Thwaites.

At only 24, Morton is the youngest of the trio. After making his debut with Garmin-Sharp in 2012 the Australian has raced mostly in the US.

This year has been his most successful, winning two stages and the overall title in the Tour of Utah, as well as securing the overall classification in the Tour of Gila.

“I really wanted to join Team Dimension Data to realise my dream of being highly competitive at the top level of cycling. This team has excited me since its inception and to be able to be a part of it is incredible,” said Morton.
