Gavin Klerck and Lionel Murray (Freewheel Cycology) won the second stage of the Wines2Whales Mountain Bike Adventure at Oak Valley Wine Estate today.
A sprint finish saw Gavin Klerck and Lionel Murray seal the 64km stage two victory in 3:08:46. They were followed home by Dwain Butler and Rudi Pollard (GRW-LCC) who took second place in 3:08:48. The third team to cross the finish line was Robert Cragg and Charles McFall (SALiRE) in 3:12:51.
“We lost a lot of time on stage one due to technical issues. “So today we decided early on to split things up.
“Two or three teams came across, so we just worked together to get a bigger gap. “Our game plan worked perfectly,” said Murray.
Mother and daughter duo Lolita and Simone Rhoda van Aardt (SALiRE) secured their second stage victory in a time of 3:40:00.
They were followed home by Michelle van Aswegen and Emma Pienaar (Pharmachoice) in 3:48:26, while Sarah Davies and Beverley Wingfield took third in a time of 3:52:15.
Theresa Ralph and Hamish Knowles (Galileo Risk) claimed another stage win in 3:22:35. Philip Lambrecht and Jane Seggie (At Last) came in 3:23:35 later to take second place, with Robert Kitching and Collette Bastard (Recycles Racing) rounding out the podium in a time of 3:28:04.
