The winners of the Cape Epic‘s coveted Exxaro Special Jersey will be rewarded with an eight-day visit to the elite Bakala Academy in Belgium.
The academy in Leuven, will assist the race to encourage and advance its development category.
The Exxaro Special Jersey is awarded to the top historically disadvantaged South African team where both riders are under 26. It was first introduced in 2012.
The jersey winners will fly to Leuven in June and spend time at the academy doing testing and training. They will also be exposed to the Etixx Quick-Step professional cycling team, which uses the academy to improve their performance.
Exxaro already gives the winning team R50 000 to further their studies and this provides another incentive for the riders to do well.
The Bakala Academy have a reputation as a world-class facility for research, innovation and education in sports.
The academy have agreed to host the Exxaro jersey winners for the next three years.
