Daryl Impey and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio won the time trial at the South African National Road Championships in Wellington today.
Defending champion Impey retained his title as he crossed the finish in 49:14 along the 39.8km course.

Moolman-Pasio got back onto her time trial bike for the second time after her cycling accident last year to ride away with the fastest elite women’s time of 38:10 along the 27.1km route.
“Today went well, I’m very happy with the win. The race went as I had expected it to go, and I was feeling good and my legs are in good shape. It was a really good day,” said Impey.
Impey was sad to be missing the road race on Sunday, but will be attending his brother’s wedding that day.
Willie Smit took second spot and said that it was mostly all about lap times and keeping to the same lap times with the highest amount of power possible.
“With my coach in the car, we were working on the router and just staying at certain lap times. That was basically how you were going to get onto the podium today,” said Smit.
Reinardt Janse van Rensburg claimed the third spot.
In the u23 men’s race, Stefan de Bod managed to retain his time trial title ahead of Nicholas Dlamini and Morne van Niekerk.
Moolman-Pasio rode hard and consistently well to grab the title, and was thankful to all involved in helping her recover.
“I’ve been very blessed in my rehab and recovery process – I’ve been in very good hands with Jeroen Swart as my coach and doctor as well,” she said.
Juanita Venter came in second, followed by Brittany Petersen.
