A video in which mountain bike ace Grant Usher showed disparity regarding refreshments available to ordinary riders in this year’s Cape Epic has created a stir on social media today.
In the video taken in the dining area, Usher, who was runner-up in the mixed section, pointed out that regular riders were given one bottle of water while also having the option to source water from a plastic container.
He panned the video to show “some parties” were well catered for at the race venues.
Usher, who participated in the inaugural race in 2004, said it was a discussion point among participants during the event and he felt compelled to make the video.
He described it as a small blotch on an otherwise phenomenal event for many of the riders.

The eight-day Cape Epic mountain bike race finished at Val de Vie Estate in Paarl on Sunday.
Nino Schurter and Matthias Stirnemann won the men’s race, while Esther Süss & Jennie Stenerhag were crowned women’s champions.
