“From what we can tell from the route profiles, the race is centered around a fairly big mountain in the area so it seems like there will be a fair bit of climbing involved,” said Van Musschenbroek.
“It will be like nothing we’ve ever experienced before. Today we drove up the hill and it’s crazy to think that we’ll soon be battling our way up there.
“We’re just planning to take it one day at a time and see how all our bodies handle the conditions.”
The team started off their racing with the Fenkil Northern Red Sea Challenge on Saturday followed by the Massawa Circuit yesterday, with Clint Hendricks finishing sixth on both occasions.
Van Musschenbroek said the Massawa Circuit race finished on a big climb so they were anticipating that to be the hardest part.
“It turned out that strong winds made the climbs the least of our worries and instead we really had to be careful along the gutter sections.
“Clint got himself into a breakaway and managed to secure a top-10 finish.”
