Organisers for the TransCape mountain bike race announced a R250 000 prize purse for next year’s event.
The prize money will be split equally between the men’s, women’s and mixed category teams and each will receive R25 000.
From the quarter of a million rand purse, there will also be funds allocated to those riding in the solo categories.
The seven-day mountain bike event, driven by Volvo Cars South Africa, is now one of the few events to offer an equal purse to both men and women.
The Liberty Winelands Encounter, like the TransCape, offers an equal purse to all categories, while the National MTB Series splits the prize money evenly between the men and women’s categories.
The 614km race starts in Knysna on February 4 and ends a week later in Franschhoek.
