The second Varsity MTB Challenge will be set in the prime location of Nederburg Wines when the two-day race takes place in Paarl later this year.
With a special race village planned for the event, ASG Events’ operations manager Darren Herbst said the wine farm’s facilities would be a major boost for the ultimate alumni challenge from September 30.
“The winery is really something special and the facilities are amazing,” he said.
The Varsity MTB Challenge, sponsored by First National Bank, incorporates the Varsity Sports race in which teams from six universities competed in official varsity colours.

Nederburg global brand development manager Robyn Bradshaw said they saw the race as part of their increasing involvement with cycling.
“Like winemaking at Nederburg, we can identify with the commitment and diligence required in cycling. Having built a reputation of excellence with our wines, we have a team that continually explore ways to better their best efforts.”
She said their link with the varsity race tied in with their commitment to the sport, most notably their involvement with Africa’s only World Tour team.
The latter compete in events such as the Tour de France to raise awareness and funds for the non-profit organisation Qhubeka, who contribute to socio-economic upliftment through the distribution of bicycles to needy South Africans.
In a benefit to cyclists who bank with FNB and RMB Private Bank, those cardholders will qualify for a 10 per cent discount.
