South Africa’s Alan Hatherly finished second at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships as he finished behind New Zealand’s Samuel Gaze in Cairns, Australia, today.
The Team Spur rider, who won the SA National MTB Championship in July, finished 11 seconds behind Gaze. Germany’s Maximilian Brandl completed the podium.
Hatherly’s result comes on the heels of a successful season both at home and internationally. In addition to his national title, Hatherly finished second in the U23 cross country race at round three of the UCI MTB World Cup in Vallnord.
Julian Jessop, South Africa’s U23 national cross country champion, finished seven minutes off the pace in a field of 66.
