South Africa’s Willie Smit won the Tour of Ethiopia after racing to victory on the fifth and final stage that finished in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, today.
Team South Africa ended the tour with three riders in the top five and Smit was able to take his first stage win of the tour.
He finished the tour in 13:54:12, ahead of Ethiopia’s Kbrom Haylay and Fiseha Gebremariam who were second and third.
Smit got off a strong start and he placed third on the opening stage. He jumped into the lead when he again finished third on the second day. He was nothing but consistent and he followed up with the same result on the third day.
Stage four proved to be somewhat more challenging as he finished fifth, but continued to lead overall.
