Nico Bell and Gawie Combrinck took their first win at the Cape Pioneer Trek, but it was too little, too late as Matt Beers and Alan Hatherly were crowned overall champions when the event concluded at Queens Hotel in Oudtshoorn today.
It was another close finish as the NAD Pro combination crossed the line in 2:25:03, two seconds ahead of Beers and Hatherly.
The Spur RedE pair had done enough over the previous days to secure their victory, beating the defending champions by 1:42 after seven days of racing.
Sabine Spitz and Robyn de Groot did their best to close the gap between them and Ariane Luthi and Amy McDougall, but strong early performances from the latter saw them crowned the overall women’s champions.
Charles McFall and Carmen Buchacher won the mixed category after they finished seconds behind stage winners Joel Stransky and Yolande de Villiers today.
