947 Cycle Challenge road closure information

The 947 Cycle Challenge will feature full road closures when an expected 26 000 cyclists line up at the start at Riversands Commercial Park, Fourways, on November 19.

Affected roads for the 21st edition of the event, as well as access routes to the venue, are listed below.

Riversands Boulevard (closed) – Not open to the public
Mnandi Road (4.30am-11am) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Summit Road (5am-11.15am) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
R55 (5am-12.30pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Woodmead Drive (5am-12.45pm) – Contraflow – Woodmead Drive (N): Maxwell Drive to Old Pretoria Road East
M1 South (4.30am-2pm) – Crossings: Marlboro, Grayston, Corlett, Athol, Oaklands, Glenhove, 11th, Riviera, Oxford, Smit
Carr Street (5.30am-2pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Bertha Road (5.30am-2pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Jan Smuts Avenue (5.30am-2.45pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Bram Fischer Drive (6am-3pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Homestead Avenue (6am-3pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Cumberland Avenue (6am-3pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Moray Drive (6am-3pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Grosvenor Road (6am-3am) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Douglas Road (6am-3pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Witkoppen Road (6am-3.30pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Newmarket Road (6am-3.30pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Epsom Avenue (6am-3.30pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Malibongwe Drive (6.15am-3.45pm) – Contraflow – Malibongwe (N) all day
R114 (6.30am-4pm) – R552 open to traffic to/from Lanseria
Cedar Road (6.30-4.30pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed
Erling Road (4.30am-4.45pm) – No vehicle crossing of this road allowed

Access routes into Riversands Commercial Park are as follows:

1. From the southern side of the venue (N1, N3, M1N and Sandton): Use William Nicol Drive or Main Road. If using Main Road, turn off Main Road into Zinnia Road to access the venue and the secured orange and Summit College parking.

2. From the northern side of the venue: Use the M26 onto R511 from Laudium. N14, Diepsloot offramp onto the R511 or proceed to N1 Rivonia Road exit via Witkoppen to Main Road or William Nicol Drive.

Note: There are road works on the N14.

To enter parking, use the following routes:

1. From Krugersdorp or the far West Rand: Use the N14 onto the R511 past Diepsloot.

Note: There are road works on the N14 which may not be finished in time for the event. The recommended route is the N1 to William Nicol or Main Road to Zinnia Road.

2. From Pretoria, Midrand or the far East Rand: Use the M26 from Laudium or N14 onto the R511 past Diepsloot or use the N1 Rivonia Road exit onto witkoppen Rd. From there, turn right onto Main Road and left into Zinnia Road.

3. Access the parking from Roodepoort or Soweto: Use the N1 onto the R511/ William Nicol Road past Fourways.

4. From the South or East (Alberton, Boksburg, Benoni): Use the M1 North or N3 onto the N1(Roodepoort) then use Rivonia Road exit onto Witkoppen Road right onto Main Road, left into Zinnia Road.
