Quick-Step Floors’ Elia Viviani won the 154km second stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour, which took place on Yas Island today.
The Italian completed the race in 3:15:30, beating LottoNL-Jumbo’s Danny van Poppel (Netherlands) and Bora-Hansgrohe’s Pascal Ackermann (Germany) into second and third respectively.
Viviani now takes the lead on the general classification, with stage one winner Alexander Kristoff in second and Van Poppel in third.

DiData’s Mark Cavendish crashed out of stage one yesterday and withdrew from the tour as a result.
“Mark sustained a concussion and a whiplash injury after his crash [yesterday]. Due to the concussion, we were not willing to risk rider safety and the call was made for Mark to stop the race,” Team Doctor Adrian Rotunno said.
“A serious neck injury has been excluded in hospital. He currently has some concussive symptoms and neck pain, but is otherwise stable. We will monitor Mark’s condition closely going forward.”
DiData’s Mark Renshaw finished 10th in stage two and is currently 10th on the GC.
