Cape Epic results: Langvad, Courtney win elite women’s prologue

Annika Langvad and Kate Courtney won the women’s 20km prologue of the Cape Epic, which took place in Cape Town today.

The Investec-Songo-Specialized pair finished the route in 53:18. faster than Team Spur’s Ariane Luthi and Githa Michiels and Ascendis Health’s Sabine Spitz and Robyn de Groot, who came second and third respectively.

Langvad was delighted with their winning start. “We had a really good strategy in our mind and it played out to perfection today,” she said.

“Kate and I have not ridden as a team together and I was really surprised at how well it worked out. I think we had it dialled from the first pedalstroke; it felt really good.”

American Courtney lauded their team effort. “Annika [Langvad] is such a team player and we just played to our strengths,” she said after the prologue.

“Rather than putting me in the hurt locker on the first day, she really pushed my pace and brought out the best out of the both of us.”
