Team BCX’s Nolan Hoffman claimed his third Cape Town Cycle Tour title at the Cape Town Stadium today.
He out-sprinted Investec-Songo-Specialized’s Sam Gaze and Pro Touch’s Reynard Butler to win in a time of 2:37:30.
Gaze, who finished in 2:37:30, won his first elite UCI MTB World Cup race yesterday and took the Cape Town Cycle Tour MTB Challenge title the week before.
Luca Mozzato finished in fourth place with a time of 2:37:31, while Martin Freyer rounded out the top five after finishing in 2:37:31.
“We played poker face game,” said Hoffman.
“We had Steven van Heerden in the break, so we knew we didn’t have to work too hard in the bunch.”
“The DiData boys panicked because they didn’t have anyone in front and when they brought it back on Suikerbossie we knew exactly what to do in the last 10km.”
Hoffman said Van Heerden took them right into the final 500m and then 2016 defending champion Clint Hendricks lead from there.
“He knows exactly where to go, knows every metre of this finish and he took me to about 180m to go. From there all I had to do was go flat-out to the finish. Very happy it worked out.”
