Direct Énergie’s Jérôme Cousin won the 165km fifth stage of the Paris-Nice in Sisteron today.
The Frenchman won the race in 3:57:25, beating Katusha-Alpecin’s Nils Politt (Germany) and Lotto Soudal’s André Greipel (Germany) into second and third respectively.

Cousin and Politt had set the pace for the last 13km, since the duo began the descent together after the King of the Mountains challenge.
The two managed to consistently hold the charging peloton to a gap of approximately 30 seconds throughout the remainding kilometres.
With less than a kilometre left, Cousin attacked with the peloton sprinting behind them. Politt had less of a response, as Cousin managed to surge over the line in first place.
Astana Pro Team’s Luis León Sanchez (Spain) retains the yellow jersey ahead of the sixth and final stage tomorrow.
