South African Alan Hatherly won the elite men’s African MTB Continental Championships cross-country race in Egypt yesterday.
Hatherly, who won bronze in the Commonwealth Games cross-country event just a week before, completed the eight-lap race in 1:24:41.

His compatriot Stuart Marais finished second seven minutes later, with Namibian Drobisch Till rounding out the podium.
Egyptian Jarrod van den Heever won the men’s under-23 race, while Namibian Alex Miller took the spoils in the junior men.
