NAD Pro’s Gawie Combrinck and Nico Bell maintained their dominance of this year’s joBerg2c, securing their fifth consecutive victory in stage six, which finished at Glencairn Farm today.
The pair now have a comfortable 25-minute buffer over second-placed Alan Gordon and Timothy Hammond, riding for Insect Science.
The winners completed today’s 98km stage in 3:51:21 and Combrinck was clearly delighted with their resilience thus far in the nine-day race.
“It had been our goal to win it from the start,” Combrinck said today. “Everything has gone according to plan so far and we are really happy with that.”
Combrinck said they created the initial gap going up the “gumtree climb”.
“From there we kept up the pace until Harrison Pass, where we took it easier.
“Harrison Pass was quite tricky, but also fun. The hairpin bends are just never-ending down there.
“We also had fun on the ‘rock-and-roll’ section. For the rest of the day, we just kept riding at a hard tempo.”
Combrinck was looking forward to a “fast and fun” day tomorrow.
“It will be a bit of a shorter ride with some awesome trails.”
