Henry Liebenberg and Matthew Keyser won the opening stage of the Trek 2 Teebus mountain bike race at Harmonie Farm, West of Steynsburg, in the Eastern Cape, today.

The Silverback-Volvo pair completed the 72km race in 2:47:25 ahead of Euodia Cycles-Cadence Tygervalley’s Malan Gys and Johan Coetzee (2:59:33) and BAM’s Russell Willis and Ryno Armdorf (4:16:33).
Zane Coetzee and Anel Strampe (A-Z) led the women’s race home in 3:54:54. They were followed by Mari du Toit and Janize van Staden (Janwurm Angri) in 5:00:45, with Tanya Heymann and Belinda van der Merwe (Something Cool) third in 5:01:44.
Advendurance’s Christi Pienaar and Fritz Pienaar took the victory in the mixed category in 3:26:26. Izelle Deyzel, Ruan Deyzel of Smoove Lube finished second in 4:03:31, while Hennie Scheepers and Tria Scheepers of Skippie rounded out the podium in 4:05:58.
The solo men’s race was won by Tiaan Lourens in 2:56:54, followed by Christo Roos (2:57:38) and Jordan Wisdom (3:19:05).
Lulu Ceronio finished first in the solo women’s event in 4:04:16 to beat Yvonne Gardiner (4:34:00) and Janine Muller (5:00:46).
