DSV Pro Cycling’s Gert Heyns and Arno du Toit won this year’s Winelands MTB Encounter title when the three-day event finished in Franschhoek today.
The pair, who claimed an overall time of 5:29:29, also took the final stage win after crossing the finish line in 1:55:01.

They were followed home by Imbuko-Momsen’s Marco Joubert and Dylan Rebello who finished after 1:56:27. Third on the day were First Ascent’s Richard Simpson and Alexander Rohrer.
Joubert and Rebello placed second overall with a total time of 5:37:26, while Simpson and Rohrer are third in 5:58:20.
Rockhopper Ladies’ Louise Ferreira and Marleen Lourens won the women’s team race with an overall time of 6:58:59. They won the final stage as well and was followed home by Companero’s Ilse Viljoen and Jana Kruger and Pool Nurse’s Alta Kriegler and Sunette Beyers, who placed second and third overall.
Home Ice Cream-dormakaba’s Matthew Stamatis and Samantha Sanders, who also claimed the final stage win, won the overall mixed team’s race with a total time of 6:10:16.
Second on the day, as well as overall, were The Gear Change’s David George and Katie Lennard. Team dormakaba’s Carmen Buchacher and Paris Basson completed the final stage and overall podium.
