Mitchelton-Scott’s Simon Yates climbed to victory in the 225km ninth stage of the Giro d’Italia, which finished on the Gran Sasso today.
The Brit completed the race in 5:54:13. He beat Groupama-FDJ’s Thibaut Pinot (France) and teammate Esteban Chaves (Colombia) into second and third respectively.

As a result of the win, Yates extended his race lead by 14 seconds ahead of the 10th stage on Tuesday. Chaves follows in second, with Team Sunweb’s Tom Dumoulin (Netherlands) in third.
