Quick-Step Floors’ Fernando Gaviria won the 176.5km fifth stage of the Tour of California yesterday.
The Colombian completed the race in 4:04:34, beating Mitchelton-Scott’s Caleb Ewan (Australia) and Bora-Hansgrohe’s Peter Sagan (Slovakia) in a bunch sprint.

BMC Racing’s Tejay van Garderen (USA) retained his race lead ahead of Team Sky’s Egan Bernal (Colombia) in second.
DiData’s Mark Cavendish (Britain) finished 35th, Tom-Jelte Slagter (Netherlands) 65th, Jay Thomson (South Africa) 96th, Scott Davies (Britain) 97th, Julien Vermote (Belgium) 98th and Mark Renshaw (Australia) 99th.
On the general classification Tom-Jelte Slagter (Netherlands) is currently placed 39th, Julien Vermote (Belgium) 57th, Lachlan Morton (Australia) 59th, Jay Thomson (South Africa) 64th, Mark Cavendish (Britain) 97th and Scott Davies (Britain) 98th.
