BMC Racing’s Tejay van Garderen won the 34.5km individual time-trial on stage four of the Tour of California yesterday.
The American completed the route in 40:47, finishing faster than teammate Patrick Bevan (New Zealand) and Team Sky’s Tao Geoghegan Hart (Britain).

Van Garderen now took the race lead with a general classification time of 12:50:55, 23 seconds clear of Team Sky’s Egan Bernal (Colombia).
