Heading into the race Hill was seeking a hat-trick of wins, but he was up against a competitive field.
Hill, of TIB Insurance, decided to attack early on in the race, which included a lot of climbing.
“There were such strong riders here that I had to put them all under pressure right from the beginning,” he said.
“I climbed really hard early on and it worked out as I managed to get a bit of a gap.
“It is hard to ride with all that pressure [of being marked], but then you just have to take the bull by the horns and go for it.”
Only Zellhuber managed to stay with Hill after his early attack. Hill, however, persevered to eventually win by less than a minute.
“It feels fantastic to claim the hat-trick of wins,” Hill said. “It was an awesome day out on superb trails and in beautiful weather conditions, which makes it all the more special.”
